Don and John are Lizzie's neighbors and have become dear friends.
Lizzie's still holding her own - May we all look this good at age 80!!
The City of Tampa has provided each resident with a new trash bin. It's nearly as tall as Lizzie!
This is Jack the Cat
He got all dressed for the Gasparilla Parade but then couldn't decide whether to stay in or go out . . .
The decision was made when the cannons got loud. Lizzie won out.

On Friday, Jan. 29th, Lizzie brought Wright's sandwiches to her place of work so I could meet everyone. - That night we went out to the 717 with Dorothy. Bill would have liked the food and the waitress, as did we; and, of course, the delightful company of Dorothy.
Bob keeps his tug in shining pristine condition!
It's kept under cover at the marina on Island Estates in Clearwater. Ross Marine and Clearwater Bay Marine Ways are no longer extant.
Guess where we are . . .
Actually, Geoff and I were at her house. Jim taught me how to cut out and place the photo wherever I wanted to be!
Geoff and I ventured into the new hotel where the lovely Clearwater Beach Hotel used to be: The Sandpearl Resort is full of 5-star luxury. The paintings and sculptures and flower arrangements were wonderful. I especially liked the large oils by Christopher M. Still. One would have to win the Lottery to stay there @ (minimum) $400 per night!

How good it is to be with long-time friends
Bob was sweet to allow me to host a luncheon at the Carlouel. It wasn't crowded with tourists and the service and food was superb!
The Carlouel Yacht Club has long been a favorite
This is the room where Bill and I had our wedding reception 50 years ago. Since then they have added the Palmer Room, another pool and fancied the place with chandeliers, wall art, canopies, large outdoor grills for Wednesday Family Nights, etc.
The cabanas are still there edged by the sea grapes and low palms, but the roquet courts are now just manicured lawn. There's even an upstairs where the Board meets.
This place has many fond memories going back to when I was a kid and swimming off the sea wall, carefully avoiding the sand spurs. Now it's a long walk on a wooded path past the sand dunes to get to the Gulf.
Ress Marine built the lovely new docks to make it more like a real Yacht Club.

Clearwater's skyline is not the same.
Many of the larger buildings are owned by the Scientologists. I heard a local refer to the one across from the Ft. Harrison as "the Taj Mahal." They say it is not fully occupied but the public is not allowed inside.
The new bridge approaching the Memorial Causeway allows boats to go under it without it being opened!
Many of the stores along Cleveland St. downtown are unoccupied. The Baptist Church and Steinmart have left.
But a new marina has been proposed for both sides of the bridge.

When it was really Bob's Birthday his family went for dinner at O'Keefe's
Skip and Robin and their families were all there, plus the parents of Darlene.
Once again I ordered fresh grouper for my dinner.

It was a bit nostalgic to walk around Bob's Shop
But not exactly how it was when I was last there . . .
Ethyleen and Geoffrey took me to their Watercolor Art lesson given by Penny Young.
Penny very sweetly let me color in a drawing she had made. I walked all around the Belleair Country Club which is inspiring for even inexperienced golfers. The recent freezing cold snap had not damaged the coconut or royal palms which are quite rare this far north in Florida. The roofing on the unoccupied Belleair Belleview Biltmore Hotel is in terrible shape. Rumor has it that the building has been sold once again - this time to the Scientologists!
While exploring a quaint shop near Largo we saw a fantastic large Night-blooming Cereus, sometimes called "Queen of the Night," growing up a bending tree trunk. It is coming from a single stem out of the ground and only blooms one or two nights of the year in late May.

Joann came down from Inglis and joined Ethyleen, Joan Q. and me for dinner at the E & E.
Neal had caught some nice fresh fish (now frozen) which he sent for me to take back to NH for Bill.
Episcopal Church of the Ascension - Clearwater, FL
The Very Rev. John Hiers - Rector, and his associate, TR Mike Branscombe told the Lesson in their own dramatic way to the children. There is also TR Leo Crawford - Pastoral Assistant, TR Linda Barley - Deacon, TR Carol Schwenke - Sunday Assistant, and TR Norman Howard - Clergy Assistant on the staff. Because Ethyleen could find no parking place she dropped me off and had to go on back home!
Bobby Ress has his big 7-0 Birthday hosted by David and Sharon at Webb's Nursery
John Webb dazzled us all with magnificent fireworks, some he makes on his own, including a display of Bob's tugboat!
The fireworks boomed on for a full half-hour. I finally got better with my camera timing and turned off the unneeded flash.
Bob is 70
His select group of 70 + best friends celebrated into the night lakeside at Webb's Nursery in Clearwater.
On Sat. Ethyleen drove us to downtown St. Petersburg
The Fine Arts Museum is a real gem (Botero really surprised us both!) and our lunch at the beautifully renovated Vinoy Hotel wasn't bad either.
January 21, 2010 - Left the skies over Franconia for the skies over Tampa
Christmas 2009 on Jan. 9, 2010
This year we drew names so we saved on wrapping paper mess and had just as much fun as always. Everyone got to choose from the selections on the table, depending on who had the highest drawn card. Hats were a favorite this year!
January 9, 2010 - Our 50th Wedding Anniversary
We managed to get everyone together for Christmas - Jerry and Ania back from Poland. Kyllan still home from Cornell, Scott not yet off to the Culinary Institute of America - and it coincided with out big date for our wedding. What better party to have? Jerry and Ania surprised us with a fabulous cake, Ania presented us with one of her special art works called "sumi-e". Debbie hand painted a wine glass, Bill and Robyn gave us a beautiful inscribed clock, and Jim wowed us with a pair of tee shirts which he'd designed after long research on the internet to find a photo of Peace Memorial Church in Clearwater. Who knows where he found the photos of Bill and me which he transposed on to the bride and groom that, truly, look just like we did on our most special day. I remember!
Billy got a late Birthday present while we watched the Florida Gators, Tim Tebow and coach Urban Meyer win the Sugar Bowl - Jan. 1, 2010
and he stayed right through to the winning end!
