I hope all of you are having a wonderful evening. Darlene and I will have by now, hoefully, attended the Sept. 11th Vigil held at noon today at Washington National Cathedral.
In the spirit of remembrance, let us pray:
O God,
Nine years ago today, this country were we live suffered a horrible tragedy.
Many lives were lost in one tragic moment, and many more lives were forever changed.
You wept with us that day.
We will never forget; we can never forget.
However, we are called to reclaim this day.
Our humanity demands that we not lose our ability to laugh and be joyful, even as we shed a few tears.
Our collective soul yearns for wholeness and healing; and is marked by graciousness to others, especially the stranger.
We will not give into fear, and will never lose the hope of your promise of new life.
Tonight we celebrate because we know You yearn for us to do so . . .
Bless this food to our use, and us to your service
and keep us ever mindful of the needs of others.
In Jesus' name we pray.
AMEN

These city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of the devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colours will bleed into one
Bleed into one
But yes, I'm still running
You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believe it
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for."

A PRAYER For YOUNG PERSONS - God our Father, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world; Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN (BCP - p.829)

EASTERDAY - April 12, 2009 - He is risen, indeed!
We exalt in your love, O God of the living, for you made the tomb of death the womb from which you bring forth your Son, the first-born of a new creation, and you anointed the universe with the fragrant Spirit of his resurrection. Make us joyful witnesses to his good news, that all humanity may one day gather at the feast of new life in the kingdom where you reign for ever and ever. AMEN
The forty days of the Lenten season were brightened by a series of noonday concerts - all well attended
Palm Sunday followed by Holy Week brought joy, sadness and teachings. Matthew 26:45 asks: "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest?" The disciples of Jesus are certainly shaken up over the events of this week and come to understand the teachings of their master. They set out to live their lives in a way that makes a difference. We are called to do the same: Wake up and act!
